BREE & CO SMALL ANIMAL BOARDING
Post-Surgical Recovery Care
Vet-nurse-supervised recovery for rabbits and guinea pigs, in a calm, dedicated space while you can’t be there to care for them yourself.
Recovery Care at Bree & Co
The first days after surgery are the most important for a small animal. Whether your pet has had a desexing, a dental, a lump or abscess removal, or another procedure, they need a quiet place to heal, medication given on time, and someone watching closely for the signs that matter. Our Post-Surgical Recovery Care gives your rabbit or guinea pig vet-nurse-supervised recovery while you can’t be there to provide it yourself.
With a vet-nursing background and years of small-animal experience, we provide exactly the kind of attentive, gentle aftercare a recovering pet needs.
Why Choose Our Recovery Care
Recovery is about far more than rest. Rabbits and guinea pigs are prone to going off their food and to gut stasis after anaesthetic, so it’s about keeping them warm, comfortable, and eating. We provide a quiet, low-stimulation recovery enclosure, restricted movement to protect healing, and close monitoring of the things that matter most: appetite, droppings, and demeanour.
What’s Included
Vet-nurse-supervised monitoring
Regular wound and incision checks for swelling, bleeding, or signs of infection.
Medication management
Pain relief and prescribed medications given exactly to your vet’s schedule, with a written log.
Gut and appetite monitoring
Close tracking of eating, drinking, and droppings, the key indicators of recovery.
Syringe feeding
Critical Care syringe feeding and appetite support for pets not yet eating on their own.
Quiet recovery enclosure
A separate, calm space with restricted movement, kept away from general boarders.
Vet liaison and daily updates
We work from your vet’s discharge notes and send daily photo and written updates.
What to Bring
- Your vet’s discharge notes or surgical summary (required)
- All medications in original packaging with dosing instructions
- Recovery food, any supplements, and a familiar blanket or bedding
We provide fresh hay, vegetables, water, and clean bedding, so your bunny has everything they need for a comfortable stay.
Health Requirements
Before your pet’s stay
Rabbits need a current calicivirus (RHDV) vaccination, as recovery patients are housed separately to protect them while they are immune-compromised.
All pets need flea and mite treatment per our standard policy. Timing can be discussed with your vet if your pet is too unwell to treat. Please bring your vet’s discharge notes at drop-off.
